Leitrim County Council, in partnership with the Department of Arts, Culture, Communications, Media and Sport and National Broadband Ireland (NBI), is hosting a special event on Monday, 14 September, at The Hive, Carrick-on-Shannon, to celebrate the rollout of the National Broadband Plan and its impact across County Leitrim. The event will showcase how high-speed broadband is transforming rural communities, supporting business growth, enabling remote working and creating new opportunities for economic and social development throughout the county.

From severe weather and flooding to power cuts, water supply disruptions and other emergencies, unexpected events can affect our daily lives. Planning ahead and taking a few simple steps can help individuals, families and communities manage disruption more effectively. The Department of Defence’s Office of Emergency Planning has launched Be Emergency Ready, a national public information campaign promoting practical preparedness, community resilience and the use of trusted information before, during and after an emergency.

Farmers, farm families and rural residents across Co. Leitrim now have access to a new digital resource designed to support health, wellbeing, and community connection. The Fit Farmers mobile app was launched through a partnership between Fit Farmers and Healthy Leitrim, an initiative of Leitrim County Council supported by Healthy Ireland and the Department of Health. The app is one example of the many positive initiatives helping to improve health and wellbeing across the county.

Leitrim’s Diaspora Strategy 2026-2030 sets out a programme of initiatives designed to encourage people with Leitrim connections to visit the county, collaborate with local communities, support enterprise and participate in Leitrim’s cultural life. The strategy adopts a broad definition of the Leitrim diaspora, including people born in the county, those with family or ancestral roots in Leitrim, former residents and people who have developed a strong personal connection with the county.

Leitrim County Council has launched ‘Most Definitely Leitrim’, a social media campaign promoting the county as an attractive place to live, work and relocate to, particularly for those seeking a better work-life balance.

The Leitrim Community Holy Wells Project (2026) is a community heritage initiative to research Holy Wells across Co. Leitrim. Holy wells, sites of heritage and cultural interest and significance, have long been part of the Irish landscape. We need volunteers, both individuals and community groups, to come forward to help undertake archival, oral history and field survey research. Training will be provided.
