Brown Bin collection:

  • From 1st January 2024, all households with bin collection are entitled to a Brown Bin
  • If you don't have one already, contact your Waste Collector and request a Brown Bin service

What can go into a Brown Bin?

The brown bin service accepts all types of food including raw and cooked meat and fish, plate scrapings, along with fruit and vegetable peelings.  Out of date foods can also be placed in brown bin, remember all packaging must be removed.  Compostable packaging and take away items such as cups, bowls and cutlery can also be placed in the brown bin. Other items that can go into the brown bin include food-soiled paper napkins, food soiled paper towels, pizza boxes as well as grass clippings and light garden waste i.e. clippings, twigs and  small branches.

What happens to the food and garden waste from a Brown Bin?

It is sent for composting or anaerobic digestion (AD). Anaerobic digestion processes food waste into a bio-gas , which in turn is used to generate electricity.
