Leitrim County Council’s new Differential Rent Scheme is effective from 01st May 2026.

The Housing Department will use the information provided in 2025 and the information held on file in relation to tenancy, household composition and income to calculate the weekly rent. It is the tenant’s responsibility to ensure that the information held by the Housing Department is accurate and up to date. If there are any changes in any of the following, tenants must notify us immediately:
- Household income for any member of the household
- Number of occupants in the dwelling
- A person moving into or out of the household
- Employment status or social welfare payments
- Any other change that may affect your rent calculation
If any of the above apply, you must complete a Rent Review form and return it with the required documentation before Friday 22nd May 2026. To request a form please email rentreview@leitrimcoco.ie or phone 071-9620005. You can download a copy of the form below. Please note the checklist on the back of the form.
Completed rent review forms and documentation can be returned by email to rentreview@leitrimcoco.ie or by post to the Rent Review Section, Housing Department, Leitrim County Council, Aras an Chontae, Co. Leitrim by Friday 22nd May 2026. If you have provided an email address, we will correspond with you via email.
REVIEW OF DIFFERENTIAL RENT ON HARDSHIP GROUNDS
A tenant may seek a review of their rent assessment where they are experiencing exceptional financial hardship and believe their current rent charge is no longer affordable.
As part of the Hardship Grounds application process, applicants must engage with the Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) and provide a Personal Financial Plan (Standard Financial Statement) completed with MABS. Applications submitted without evidence of engagement with MABS may be delayed or deemed incomplete.

CHANGE IN HOUSEHOLD COMPOSITION
You must notify the Council if there is a change in the persons living in your household or included in your tenancy.
Examples include:
- Adding/Removing an occupant to the household
- Relinquishment of Interest in a Joint Tenancy
Please ensure that for any new children/dependents, a copy of the birth certificate and PPSN or if a member of the household member is deceased that a copy of the death certificate is provided to Leitrim County Council
