National Biodiversity Week 2026
Friday 15th May - Sunday 24th May 2026

National Biodiversity Week is taking place this year from Friday 15th May – Sunday 24th May. Explore the rich variety of life in Ireland this May with a host of wonderful events and activities for the whole family. The week aims to spark people’s curiosity, inspire action for biodiversity, and foster a connection with our natural heritage.
The Local Authority Biodiversity Officer Network plays a central role in turning National Biodiversity Week from a national programme into locally delivered, community‑led events. Biodiversity Officers coordinate, organise and directly deliver events in their counties, ensuring every part of the country is represented with walks, talks, workshops, exhibitions and family activities rooted in local habitats and species. All events can be found on Home - National Biodiversity Week
2026 brings the 14th annual Biodiversity Photographer of the Year competition, Scavenger Hunts for school and at home, and free events every day on all things wildlife in Ireland! Events will be both in person and virtual, so everyone can take part.
There are lots of different events happening all over Co. Leitrim to celebrate National Biodiversity Week. To find out more and to find events near you please visit biodiversityweek.ie
