Public Notice: Warning Regarding Fraudulent Planning-Related Emails
Leitrim County Council is aware that fraudulent emails are currently circulating which falsely claim to originate from local authority Planning Departments and seek payment of planning-related fees, charges, or development contributions.
The Council is advising members of the public, planning applicants, agents, architects, engineers, developers, and all other stakeholders to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited emails relating to planning applications, planning fees, or requests for payment.
Leitrim County Council will only issue email correspondence from official @leitrimcoco.ie email addresses. The Council will never request that payment instructions be obtained by replying to an email.
If you receive an email that you believe may be fraudulent:
- Check the sender's email address carefully to ensure it has been sent from a legitimate @leitrimcoco.ie email address. Fraudulent email addresses are often designed to closely resemble genuine local authority addresses and may appear authentic at first glance.
- Do not click on any links contained within the email or open any attachments.
- Do not provide personal, financial, banking, or payment information.
- Do not make any payment in response to the email.
- Contact the Planning Department directly using official contact details published on the Leitrim County Council website to verify the authenticity of the communication.
Leitrim County Council encourages all planning applicants, agents, and stakeholders to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious correspondence immediately to An Garda Síochána and to Leitrim County Council.
