EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR RURAL WATER FUNDING APPLICATIONS
Deadline for Applications Extended to Friday, 16th October 2026
Leitrim County Council is advising Group Water Schemes, Group Sewerage Schemes, Community Water Connections and Community Wastewater Connections that the closing date for applications under the Capital Funding Programme for the Rural Water Sector 2027-2029 (CFP for RWS 2027-2029) has been extended to Friday, 16th October 2026.
The CFP for RWS 2027-2029, launched by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage in July 2026, is the latest cycle of the Multi-Annual Rural Water Programme and will provide €175 million in funding to support improvements in drinking water quality, resilience and reliability for rural communities throughout Ireland.
Funding is available to existing Group Water Schemes, Group Sewerage Schemes, Community Water Connections and Community Wastewater Connections that are not connected to Uisce Éireann networks. The programme includes a range of funding measures to support projects such as:
• Source protection works;
• Water treatment and storage infrastructure;
• Network improvements;
• Amalgamation and rationalisation of Group Water Schemes;
• Scheme extensions; and
• Extensions to existing community water and wastewater connections.
Leitrim County Council is encouraging all eligible schemes to review their current and future infrastructure needs and take advantage of this opportunity to secure funding for essential improvements.
Applications at a minimum should include:
• The name of the scheme and contact details of the applicant;
• A brief description of the proposed works; and
• An estimated cost of the proposed works.
To assist applicants in preparing submissions, schemes may wish to seek advice from contractors or companies experienced in rural water infrastructure works who can help identify project requirements and provide indicative cost estimates.
All submissions received will be assessed by Leitrim County Council before inclusion in the Council's overall funding application to the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Applications will be evaluated in accordance with the programme criteria set out in the Framework Document.
While funding cannot be guaranteed for all projects submitted, the Council will assess and prioritise applications based on programme requirements before making its funding submission to the Department.

Applications should be clearly marked:
"CFP for RWS 2027-2029 – Funding Submission"
and submitted no later than 5.00 p.m. on Friday, 16th October 2026.
