Capital Funding Programme for Rural Water Sector 2027-2029
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, TD, and Minister of State with special responsibility for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan, TD, on 27th July 2026, announced the launch of the Capital Funding Programme for the Rural Water Sector 2027–2029 (CFP for RWS 2027-2029). This is the next cycle of the Multi Annual Rural Water Programme (MARWP) and provides €175 million in investment to improve drinking water quality, resilience and reliability for rural communities across Ireland.
Under the new CFP for RWS 2027-2029, there are 8 individual funding measures available aimed at improving water services for communities that are not connected to Uisce Éireann networks. Each funding measure supports targeted capital investment across source protection, treatment infrastructure, network improvements, amalgamation or rationalisation, scheme extensions and extensions to existing community connections.
Leitrim County Council are now inviting submissions for funding under this 3-year programme from existing Group Water Schemes, Group Sewerage Schemes, Community Water Connections and Community Wastewater Connections. All submissions received will be considered by Leitrim County Council for inclusion on their overall submission for funding to the Department.
Please note that funding under Measure A3 for amalgamation and/or Rationalisation of Group Water Schemes is only available to existing Group Water Schemes. For more information on this please refer to pages 26-27 of the Framework Document.
