PEACEPLUS Lough MacNean & Lough Melvin Biodiversity Project
Leitrim County Council are currently seeking applications under the PEACEPLUS Environmental Awareness & Biodiversity Programme , this application relates to the Lough Melvin & Lough MacNean Biodiversity Project, and is open to applicants who live / work in the area of Lough MacNean & Lough Melvin.
You are now invited to submit an application for a small community biodiversity or environmental awareness project/initiative. Successful applicants will work together in small cohorts (2 groups) to develop and deliver a shared local project/initiative, supported by the programme team, and will take part in programme activities including workshops, meetings and collaborative learning sessions.
Projects should be:
- Community-led and practical
- Focused on biodiversity, water quality or environmental awareness
- Delivered locally with a small shared budget (approx. €750 per cohort of 2 groups)
All applications will be assessed by an independent evaluation panel based on:
- Environmental Value
- Collaboration & Community Impact
- Feasibility & Deliverability
- Quality of Proposal

Eligibility Criteria & Marking Scheme
Applicants must:
- Be a community or voluntary group (e.g. Tidy Towns, community associations, youth groups, environmental groups)
- Be based in, or actively working within the eligible cross-border programme area of Leitrim and Fermanagh, with particular focus on communities connected to the Lough Melvin and Lough MacNean areas
- Propose a project/initiative aligned with the programme themes (biodiversity, water quality or environmental awareness)
- Demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively with another community group as part of a cohort (or be matched with a group)
- Submit a completed application form by the specified deadline (Friday 8 May at 10:00am)

Next steps
Applications will be reviewed and assessed by an independent panel. Applications may be shortlisted for a follow-up site visit before final selection, and successful applicants will then work with the project team to develop and deliver their projects.
Closing date
Applications must be received before 10:00am on Friday the 8th of May 2026.
