Draft Biodiversity Action Plan 2025 - 2030

Public Consultation

Leitrim County Council is inviting members of the public, community groups, landowners, businesses, and organisations to have their say on the future of biodiversity in Co. Leitrim. 

Leitrim County Council's Draft Biodiversity Action Plan 2025–2030 has been published and is now open for public consultation. 

The Draft Biodiversity Action Plan sets out a five-year roadmap to protect, restore and enhance Leitrim’s rich natural heritage. The overall vision isto create a thriving, resilient natural environment where biodiversity flourishes and there is a harmonious balance between nature & human activities.

The Plan includes actions under six strategic objectives:

  1. Raising awareness through education and community engagement
  2. Protecting and restoring natural habitats and native species
  3. Tackling and raising awareness of invasive alien species
  4. Promoting sustainable land use practices
  5. Tracking progress through monitoring and evaluation
  6. Providing funding, resources and support for biodiversity actions

The public consultation is open from Monday 13th October 2025 until Monday 10th November 2025.

All submissions by post or by email must be clearly marked:

Please note that all written submissions will be made publicly available (with personal data redacted) and will be considered in finalising the Plan.
