A Digital Story Map is under development for Mohill and will appear here in Spring 2026.
Mohill, County Leitrim has a history stretching back fifteen centuries. Through centuries of upheaval and displacement, Mohill never lost its position as a major centre for markets and livestock fairs. It also retained ancient influences in its geography, built environment, society and culture. Although large-scale emigration and societal shifts continue to test Mohill’s resilience, Mohill retains a strong sense of place, pride in its rich history, and a vibrant, strong community spirit. Mohill has a rich history to tell – of buildings, events, institutions and people. This storymap – Mohill Mo Scéal (Mohill My Story) – focuses on Mohill as a market and trading town in the 20th century, and especially on the ordinary people who made their lives and livelihoods here.
This project is being funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development through the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund and Leitrim County Council.
