The voluntary work and dedication of community groups and volunteers makes Leitrim a vibrant and caring place to live. The Love Where You Live Awards are a joint initiative of Leitrim Public Participation Network and Leitrim County Council. The awards aim to publicly acknowledge the positive contribution that communities, volunteers and schools make to County Leitrim.

 

Award Categories

For each category, there will be One Winner and One Runner Up per Municipal District.

Winners will receive a €500 prize and Runners Up will receive a €250 prize.

Green Community

This award celebrates the positive contribution that Community and Voluntary Groups have done to improve, revitalise and protect their local environment. This category recognises the achievement of the groups in creating a sense of pride and inclusivity in their area making it an attractive place to live and enjoy. 

Examples include planting to promote biodiversity, heritage/conservation, recycling, waterways protection, litter control, etc.

Marks Awarded for Voluntary and Community Effort (25 marks), Nature and Biodiversity (20 Marks), Sustainability (20 Marks), Litter Control (15 Marks), Improvement (15 Marks) and Overall Impression (5 marks)

Green Estate

This award celebrates the positive contribution housing estates, residential areas and apartment complexes have done to improve, revitalise and protect their local environment. This category recognises the achievement of the groups in creating a sense of pride and inclusivity in their area making it an attractive place to live and enjoy. 

Examples include planting to promote biodiversity, heritage/conservation, recycling, litter control, promoting social inclusion, etc.

Age Friendly Community

An Age Friendly initiative is one that has a meaningful impact on the lives of older people in the community, where their views, interests and needs are catered for. Projects that support older people to continue to play an active role in community life.

Examples include Working with older people, People with Disabilities, Active Age, Women's / Men's Groups, etc.

Marks Awarded for Responsiveness and Flexibility (20 Marks), Overcoming Challenges (20 Marks), Collaboration (20 Marks), Innovation (20 Marks) and Improvement (20 Marks)

Social Inclusion

This award recognises community groups that create opportunities for all to participate in and whose aim is to minimise social exclusion and/or help to improve the quality of life for socially excluded groups. Groups that make opportunities accessible for all to participate in. Your group must be registered with Leitrim PPN to enter this PPN sponsored award. 

Examples include; Working with older people, People with Disabilities, Ethnic Minority, Refugees, Travelling Community, LGBTQ+, Men’s and Hen’s sheds, Active ages groups, Sports clubs, Youth clubs, etc.

Marks Awarded for Voluntary Involvement and Participation (20 marks), Support Socially Excluded Groups (30 Marks), Achievements and Initiatives (30 marks) and Endeavour/Improvement (20 Marks)

Community Achievement

This award recognises groups/organisations that provide a valuable service to their local community to ensure a good quality of life for all, showing achievements and contributions and making a difference to your community.  Your group must be registered with Leitrim PPN to enter this PPN sponsored award.   

Examples include; Community Centres, Community Alerts, Children and Youth Services, Family Resource Centres, Defib groups, Heritage groups, Development Associations, Community Councils etc.  

Marks Awarded for Voluntary Involvement and Participation (20 marks), Difference made to the Community (20 Marks), Making a Positive Impact on the Community (20 Marks), Innovation/Flexibility (20 marks), Endeavour/Improvement (20 Marks)

Terms and Conditions

  • All entries must from organisations/groups based in Co. Leitrim
  • All entries will be visited and judged by independent judges
  • Groups can apply under one category only
  • All entries must be completed online on the official application form
  • The decision of the judges is final
  • Each entry will receive 3 tickets to the awards ceremony which will take place on 2nd October 2025

All entries will receive 3 free tickets to The Love Where You Live Awards which will be held on Thursday 2nd October 2025.

Schools Competition 2024/2025

The Love Where You Live Primary Schools Competition is an annual competition to recognise and celebrate the work of our schools, pupils and teachers.

For the school year 2024/2025, Leitrim County Council invited Primary Schools throughout County Leitrim to enter a Climate Action themed project.

This competition is now closed, thank you to all the Primary Schools throughout Leitrim who participated. 

Please keep an eye out for details of the 2025/2026 Schools Competition- Entries will open in October 2025

There are monetary prizes of €500 for winning schools €250 for runner up schools in each Municipal District.
