Draft Special Speed Limits Bye-laws 2025

Notice is hereby given that Leitrim County Council, in exercise of the powers vested in it by Section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 has prepared Draft Special Speed Limits Bye-laws 2025 for the administrative area of Leitrim County Council, with revisions as follows,

  • It is proposed to extend the 100km/hr speed limit from Mulkaun to Diffreen bridge as per Drawing No 203/1778/A41.
  • At Diffreen National School, it is proposed to reduce the length of the Periodic Speed limit and increase the speed limit to 60km/hr as per Drawing No 203/1778/A40.
  • It is proposed to extend the 60km/hr speed limit at Clooneen, Manorhamilton as per Drawing No 203/1778/A32.
  • It is proposed to introduce a 30km/hr periodic speed limit at Saint Clares National School in Manorhamilton as per Drawing No 203/1778/A32B.

The review is being conducted in accordance with the Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits in Ireland issued by the Department of Transport Tourism and Sport (March 2015 Edition and updated Chapters May 2025).

Copies of the Draft Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws 2025 and associated maps can be viewed on the below links and are also available for inspection during normal office hours (Mon. – Fri. from 9:00 – 13:00 and from 14:00 – 17:00) at the following locations until Monday 11th August, 2025:

  • Leitrim County Council Offices, Áras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon
  • Leitrim County Council District Office, Enniskillen Road, Manorhamilton

Submissions or objections to the proposals may be made in writing to: Director of Services, Economic Development, Regeneration, Sustainable Transport and Emergency Services. Leitrim County Council, Áras an Chontae, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim at any time during this period to be received no later than 4pm on Monday, 11th August, 2025.The Council will consider any such submissions/objections received.
