Mick O' Dwyer, multi All-Ireland winning manager and businessman will be the keynote speaker at this year's Training and Education Expo. Mick O' Dwyer will help guide you on the next steps to take having taken on board information on your cv, interview skills, goals and training options as well as having looked at the various supports available from agencies locally.
Gerry Duffy, who ran 32 marathons in 32 days and CV and Interview Skills Expert, Mairead Fleming of The Apprentice are just two of the speakers at this year’s free Leitrim County Development Board “Training and Further Education Expo and Seminar” on Thursday March 1st in the Landmark Hotel, Carrick on Shannon.
The event, geared at people who are currently unemployed or looking for retraining, is a free event which will bring together all the agencies involved in training and supports in one venue.
From 10.30am to 4.30pm, there will be an opportunity for people to meet on a one-one basis with agencies such as

- Citizen’s Information Service
- County Enterprise Board
- MABS
- Leitrim Energy Group
- Leitrim Sports Partnership
- Department of Social Protection
- Collins McNicholls Recruitment Agency
and colleges including: Athlone IT, Irish Academy of Public Relations, IT Sligo and South West College in Enniskillent.
As well as the training side of the expo, there will also be details of jobs available in the region through Collins-McNicholls Recruitment Company which covers the West and North West.
In addition to having the chance to visit the stands of the agencies, people attending the event on March 1st can also sit in on the talks running for the morning alongside the Expo.
Speakers will include Gerry Duffy. Gerry Duffy is a motivational speaker and self-employed business man best known for running 32 marathons in 32 days around Ireland as well as winning the inaugural UK DECA Enduroman Event in 2011. The Enduroman event has been dubbed the “toughest 10 day endurance challenge in the world”. Gerry is an ideal speaker for this event as he can speak from his own experience of turning one’s life around which is something that people all over the county have been facing as they adjust to looking for a new career or going back to education. He will offer advice on how to set realistic goals to help you decide on your next career steps.
In the current job market, it is vital to have both your cv and covering letter perfect in order to get an interview and then equally important to be well prepared for your interview. For followers of TV 3’s The Apprentice and Ireland AM,Mairead Fleming will be familiar as an expert in advising on CV and Interview preparation. Mairead will be speaking on both interview and cv preparation but also on the sectors where jobs are most likely to become available. Based on her work as director of the well known Brightwater Recruitment Specialists, Mairead is an ideal position to advise on what employers are looking for and where jobs are most likely to be available. The tips will include information on the type of interview questions to expect and have prepared as well as common mistakes that people make in preparing their CV.
Locally, there is plenty advice available on how to maximize your skills and also help in identifying routes which your existing skills could take you in order to develop a new career or a different angle on your career. Niamh Brenan, is the Adult Education Guidance Counsellor with the VEC and Niamh will give people an insight into where you can get information on different courses and useful websites such as Qualifax and Careers Portal which have a lot of information on courses available around the country. An area of concern for people in returning to education is how it will affect their income and social welfare entitlements, Niamh will help to provide answers to questions in this area also.
