Leitrim Sports Partnership have teamed up with RTE’s Operation Transformation Programme and is organising Sli Na Slainte 5.5km Walk on Saturday 14th January 2011, at 12.00 pm meeting at the Aras an Chontae, Leitrim Co Council Offices, Carrick on Shannon for walk on Carrick on Shannon Sli na Slainte route. The walk will start at the Leitrim Co Council offices and follow the 5.9km route taking in Carrick on Shannon beautiful scenery and attractive buildings along the way and finish again at the Leitrim County Council offices.
Want to get fit, health, look and feel great why not get off to the perfect start and join in on this 5.5km walk and set in motion your own fitness and health programme for 2011. This is the perfect opportunity for all ages, abilities, and fitness levels to get involved on the day and we particularly would welcome families to get involved. The vision of the Leitrim Sports Partnership is to get, more people in Leitrim actively engage in sports and recreation and this is the perfect opportunity to show RTE’s Operation Transformation programme how active we are in Leitrim. RTE’s cameras may be there on the day as they are making a few surprise visits to the many walks being organised around the country by the Irish Sports Council.
Sli na Slainte stands for path to health, developed by the Irish Heart Foundation, the routes are marked by bright colourful signposts which are not numbered and are situated at 1km internals, you’ll find Sli na Slainte walk routes all over Ireland. Simply follow the KM signs, set your pace to suit your enjoyment and you’ll quickly feel better and get fitter. You will also experience a great sense of achievement.
