Bank of America is the main financial services sector enterprise in Leitrim. In 2007 they acquired MBNA who have been operating in Ireland for eleven years and is the third largest credit card provider in the country.
Operations started in Dublin and seven years ago opened a state-of-the-art operations centre in Carrick-on-Shannon. Today they are the largest employer in Leitrim employing over 1,000 people in areas such as telemarketing, customer assistance and support functions.
In 2004 the company was awarded first place in the Top 100 Best Companies to Work for in Ireland. In that same year was named the Best Place to Work in the entire European Union, topping more than 1,000 companies in 15 countries.
Leitrim County Council alongside the IDA worked with the company in sighting the operations centre in Carrick-on-Shannon. They continue to be active members of the community and are involved in a number of County Council initiatives.
