Manorhamilton is the largest town in north Leitrim, population 1417, (2002 Census) 729 Male and 688 Female. North Leitrim is characterised by its mountains and large lakes, with deep glacial valleys radiating from the centre of the land mass to form a spectacularly scenic landscape. Manorhamilton is a town with a large number of historical sights and buildings some dating back to 1634 when Sir Frederick Hamilton built his castle and from that the town got its name.

The Health Services Executive - North West, is the largest employer in Manorhamilton. Between its Offices Hospital and the Old Peoples Home it would employ in the region of 260 people. There are also four factories here Eaton Automotive would be the largest of those factories employing 200 people. Merenda employs 30 people, Melvyn plastics employs 12 and Elastometal employs 28.

There are three churches in the town, the Roman Catholic Church, Church of Ireland, and the Methodist Church. There are two national schools in the town, the Masterson Church of Ireland School has 26 pupils, St.Clare’s National School as 198 pupils. There is also a second level school, St.Clare's Comprehensive School with 420 pupils.
